Surgery

The hospital provides a variety of general and specialized surgical services, including tonsillectomies, hernia repair, bowel resection, gall bladder, foot, cataract and many others.  The surgery department was completely remodeled in 2003.

Some procedures may be performed using a narrow, rigid viewing tube called a laparoscope.  In laparoscopic surgery, the laporoscope and other instruments are inserted through a small incision.  Laparoscopy also may be used to examine the appendix, gallbladder, liver and female reproductive organs.

Gastroenterology (GI) Lab

St. John's Hospital - Cassville maintains a fully-equipped GI lab for diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.  Procedures include colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy.

Colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy allow examination of the inside of the colon with a flexible, fiber optic viewing instrument; biopsy and removal of polyps can be done at this time.  Gastroscopy allows examination and biopsy of the inside of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum.
